Epic confirms new Unreal Engine pricing, but it will not affect game developers
Epic Games has revealed its new pricing for Unreal Engine, but only for users who use the software for non-gaming projects.

Epic has shared that those using Unreal for commercial non-game applications will be required to pay $1,850 per head annually after exceeding $1 million in revenue, meaning companies will now have to pay thousands in fees for their employees. The change will go into effect with the release of Unreal 5.4 next month.
Game developers will not be required to pay the new fees, instead remaining under the current model. Currently, developers can use the software for free but must pay Epic a 5% royalty fee once they reach $1 million in sales.
Epic announced the change last year as it couldn't collect royalties for Unreal's use in non-gaming applications. Users understood the news, as Epic's new model filled a revenue gap, whereas Unity's controversial fees for game developers did not.
