Star Wars: Jedi Director Stig Asmussen forms new studio, Giant Skull
Stig Asmussen, the director of Respawn's Star Wars: Jedi series, has announced the formation of Giant Skull, a new studio developing a narrative-driven single-player game.
The details:
Giant Skull has been described (via IGN) as a "new AAA game studio dedicated to building gameplay-driven, story-immersed action-adventure games set in captivating worlds" with a workforce based in Los Angeles and remotely worldwide.
The studio's first project will be a "premium, AAA narrative-driven single-player third-person action-adventure game" developed in Unreal Engine 5. Not much else has been revealed as of yet, but it's worth noting that Jedi: Survivor was also developed using the same engine, so we can expect something familiar in terms of gameplay.
Giant Skull currently employs approximately 30 people, some of whom are former developers for the Jedi series and Fortnite. This includes former Jedi: Survivor technical director Jon Carr as CTO, former Valorant, Fortnite, and League of Legends art director Patrick Murphy, and lead producer Lauren McLemore, who also worked on Fortnite.
Asmussen left Respawn and EA last year, leaving the studio's future projects, including the third game in the Jedi trilogy, to other experienced employees.
