Elden Ring Nightreign debuts to over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam, despite mixed reception

Elden Ringโs multiplayer spin-off, Nightreign, was released on Thursday and has achieved a peak player count of over 300,000 on Steam alone, despite mixed reviews from fans.
The details:
According to SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 313,593 concurrent players on the platform shortly after its release at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET. As of the time of writing, the total number of active players has since dropped to 167,585, but it's likely that as more people jump into the game over the weekend, the current peak will be surpassed.
This is the second-highest concurrent player count for a FromSoftware release, trailing only Elden Ring, which had 953,426 at launch. The studio's other titles, such as Sekiro, Dark Souls III, and Armored Core 6, only reached peak numbers of 125,000 to 156,000 players.
Despite its popularity, Nightreign has received mixed reviews from fans and critics. Many reviewers have criticized the game's poor technical performance on high-end PCs, which FromSoftware has confirmed it is currently investigating. Others have been critical of the game's design, calling the co-op rogue-like "shallow" compared to the developer's previous titles. Reviews have also noted the strange decision to omit two-person co-op, forcing parties of two to play either solo or with a random player, with solo play appearing to be much easier in terms of difficulty.
