Doom creator John Romero responds to rumours his studio, Romero Games has shut down

Following Microsoft's announcement regarding layoffs, John Romero had confirmed that funding for his studio's project had been pulled

Original Doom creator, John Romero, now head of Romero Games, has confirmed that his studio is still open despite rumors to the contrary.

The details:

  • While not naming Microsoft by name, John Romero had confirmed that his current project had seen its funding pulled along with 'other announced projects at other studios'.
  • Romero put out a statement which addressed rumours that Romero Games had been shut down, "We want to address recent reports regarding the status of Romero Games. These reports have contained inaccuracies, and we feel it's important to set the record straight. Romero Games is not closed, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that it does not come to that. Any suggestion otherwise is factually incorrect. Indeed, we were in the studio today to discuss next steps with the team."
  • John Romero and his wife Brenda both founded Romero Games, and have claimed that several other publishers have been in contact with the studio about reviving their canceled game.
