Dark Outlaw Games founder Jason Blundell unveils new details of cancelled project

Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell has confirmed that Sony’s Dark Outlaw Games studio was creating a non‑live‑service PlayStation project prior to its recent closure.

The details:

  • Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Sony had shut down Dark Outlaw Games as part of a company-wide restructuring that also led to the closure of Bluepoint. The first‑party PlayStation studio was founded in 2025 under Blundell to work on an unannounced PS5 title following the closure of his previous PlayStation studio, Deviation Games.
  • Speaking on a Twitch stream hosted by content creator JCbackfire, Blundell officially confirmed that PlayStation had closed the studio, describing the shutdown as something that “fucking sucked.” Despite the disappointment, Blundell repeatedly stressed that there is no bad blood toward Sony, calling the company a good partner and framing the decision as a consequence of shifting business priorities rather than anything personal.
  • Blundell went on to share a brief insight into the now-cancelled debut project at Dark Outlaw, which, despite popular belief, was not a live service title. While the designer explained that he could not reveal much about the project itself, he stated that fans “would have really liked what we were doing.”
