Capcom is “considering how to approach” future Mega Man titles

As Capcom continues to release new titles in its Resident Evil and Street Fighter franchises, it appears that Mega Man may have been left behind; however, the publisher has revealed that it is still figuring out where to go with the series.

The details:

• During the company's most recent shareholder meeting (via VGC), one of its shareholders mentioned that the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection had sold one million copies since April and that it may have contributed to "user expansion," prompting them to wonder what Capcom had planned for the franchise in the future. "Including Mega Man 11, the latest entry in the franchise, Mega Man is one of Capcom’s historic IPs and is loved by fans, and as such we want to take care in how we develop the series," Capcom replied. "We are considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas and gameplay, etc."
• Mega Man releases have been scarce, with Mega Man 9, 10, and 11 arriving in 2008, 2010, and 2018, respectively. Several compilations containing its retro titles, however, have seen success over the last decade. When asked if it plans to release more compilations or ports of older games in the franchise to newer platforms, the company replied, "We are considering our approach to ports of past entries titles, which includes addressing technical issues.”
• Capcom claims that since Mega Man's debut over 36 years ago, the franchise has sold more than 38 million units worldwide, trailing only Street Fighter's 46 million and lagging behind Monster Hunter's 92 million and Resident Evil's 142 million. Despite this, its fanbase has remained devoted, with numerous attempts to persuade Capcom to complete the canceled Mega Man Legends 3, as well as remaster or even remake the original two spin-offs.

• Xbox and Bethesda have confirmed that they will attend Gamescom 2023, marking another Microsoft appearance at a trade show. It's possible that the company will make some new announcements, but it's more likely that it will focus on the projects that were revealed at Summer Game Fest, such as Fable, Forza Motorsport, and Starfield.
• The designer of F-Zero believes that the franchise has been dormant for nearly two decades due to the popularity of Mario Kart. While Metroid has recently seen a revival in the form of Metroid Dread and Prime Remastered, he stated that the decision to outsource the projects was made after "careful selection" of the developers in charge and that the returns of releasing a new F-Zero may not be worth the overall cost of development.
