It has been reported that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's European launch sales have fallen short compared to other major releases, with the game struggling to compete against rival FPS Battlefield 6 and even its own predecessor.

The details:

  • According to data from GSD (via The Game Business), which tracks digital and physical sales across Europe, Black Ops 7's opening week sales were 63% below what EA’s Battlefield 6 managed during its own launch week. The game also saw a 50% decline in sales compared to last year's Black Ops 6 during the same period.
  • Despite the weaker sales figures, it’s worth noting that the game's player count is likely much higher, as Black Ops 7 was released on Xbox Game Pass unlike BF6. However, Black Ops 6 was also available on the service, highlighting that hype surrounding the game seems lower than past entries.
  • Activision's lack of celebrations surrounding the launch also highlights the game’s weaker commercial performance, with the publisher typically sharing impressive milestones on social media. Not much is known about the game’s player counts aside from rather low numbers over on Steam, though a majority of COD’s audience typically plays on consoles or via Blizzard’s BattleNet client.
  • Black Ops 7 launched amid increased competition from BF6 and other popular multiplayer titles such as Arc Raiders. The game has been met with mixed reviews and criticism for its inclusion of AI cosmetics, though developer Treyarch has been given some credit for its reversal of COD’s controversial SBMM system.
