Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are finally being re-released on PS4 and PS5 this July, complete with campaigns, multiplayer, and Zombies modes.

The details:

  • Treyarch announced on X that the original Black Ops and its follow-up Black Ops 2 are receiving ports to more modern PlayStation consoles, allowing players to play the titles for the first time outside of the PS3 on the platform. The studio behind the ports is Iron Galaxy, best known for developing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 and, as a support studio, bringing games such as Skyrim to Nintendo Switch.
  • Treyarch has confirmed that each port will include their full singleโ€‘player campaign, multiplayer, and the classic Zombies modes but stressed that these are straightforward ports rather than remasters, so players should not expect major visual upgrades outside of support for higher resolutions.
  • The games will be available on the PlayStation Store later this month, with the titles set to be PS4 releases that are backward compatible on PS5. However, it appears unlikely that it will support any form of crossplay with Xbox or PC given that those versions still utilize their own servers.
