Just over a week before its intended release date, Gearbox has announced that Borderlands 4’s Nintendo Switch 2 port has been indefinitely delayed to provide additional development time.

The details:

  • As announced by Gearbox on Tuesday, Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 will no longer launch on October 3, as the port requires additional development time. “We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that,” the company wrote in a statement. “Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans.”
  • The studio has now cancelled all digital pre-orders as required by Nintendo and has yet to provide a new release date or an exact reasoning for the delay occurring so close to its planned launch.
  • Following the release of Borderlands 4 earlier this month, fans have been critical of its poor technical performance on all platforms. Despite Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford defending the game on social media, players have highlighted several issues regarding poor frame rates and crashes, which has likely contributed to the delay of the Switch 2 version due to the console’s weaker hardware.
