Bandai Namco announces Studio 2 & Studio S, a developer focused on commissioned projects
Bandai Namco has formally announced that its team of developers, Studio 2 & Studio S, which has worked on Nintendo titles such as Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for many years, has now become a fully-fledged studio.
The details:
According to the new Studio 2 & Studio S website, the studio specializes in "contracted development projects" and currently employs 152 people, 40% of whom are artists, 32% are recent graduates, and the rest are designers and programmers.
The studio's team has been working under Bandai Namco for years, but this is the first time it has been given an official name. It has previously assisted Nintendo in the development of several Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. entries, Arms, and Mario Sports Superstars.
Despite Studio 2 & Studio S's ties to Nintendo, it's worth noting that the studio appears to be open to collaborating with other major companies as it sees fit. Still, given the active job listings for developers to work on "a 3D action game project commissioned by Nintendo" and "consumer games that will be commissioned by Nintendo," it looks like the developer is locked in for a few more projects from the company.
