3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks caught in Embracer layoffs
It appears that Danish developers 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks are the latest of Embracer Group’s studios to be hit with layoffs after the closure of Free Radical this week.
The details:
Scott Miller, Duke Nukem creator and founder of 3D Realms and Apogee Entertainment revealed that he had heard from sources close to the situation that approximately half of the staff at both 3DR and Slipgate had been laid off, with Apogee "looking at hiring at least 2-3" affected employees.
Miller's claim was backed up by Michael Markie, a former lead composer at 3DR who confirmed he was among those let go and is now looking for work. "For Christmas this year, I got laid off," Markie writes in his post. "If anyone is looking for a level designer or audio please hit me up!"
Embracer's layoffs and closures have been relentless, with the Swedish firm announcing that approximately 900 employees had been laid off in three months due to its restructuring. Since then, it has closed TimeSplitters developer Free Radical and laid off even more staff at Fishlabs, New World Interactive, Cryptic Studios, and other subsidiaries.
