11 Bit Studios apologizes after AI-generated content was discovered in their sci-fi survival game, The Alters

The Alters developer, 11 Bit Studios, has found itself in a bit of hot water after fans discovered AI-generated assets in the code for the recently released sci-fi survival game.

The details:

• All AI-generated content must be disclosed in the game's description on Steam as mandated by Valve; however, there was no mention of any AI assets in the description for The Alters despite fans finding evidence of AI having been used.
• An image circulated on social media showed an in-game background display featuring a text-based "Captain's Log" showing the tell-tale generative AI phrase, "Sure, here's a revised version focusing purely on scientific and astronomical data".
• In a statement on social media, 11 Bit apologised for the oversight and explained that the AI-generated assets were 'temporary' and were never intended for the final release of The Alters.
