Following rumors that Microsoft may exit the console business, Xbox president Sarah Bond stated that the company's next generation of hardware will be the "largest technical leap you will have ever seen."

The details:

  • During the recent Xbox Podcast, Bond discussed future Xbox hardware as part of the company's roadmap for the next generation, with more information expected this holiday season. Bond stated that the multi-year plan would include "more console and controller options".

  • The president also boldly stated that Xbox is currently working on "delivering the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation." In an interview with The Verge, Phil Spencer discussed the company's commitment to hardware in greater detail. "I'm very proud of the work that the hardware team is doing, not only for this year but also into the future," he said. "[We're] really thinking about creating hardware that sells to gamers because of the unique aspects of the hardware. It's kind of an unleashing of the creative capability of our hardware team that I'm really excited about."

  • Before the podcast, rumors of Microsoft potentially bringing its games to rival platforms raised concerns that the company was gradually abandoning the console market in favor of focusing entirely on Game Pass and its software. Spencer was said to have addressed the claims internally, assuring employees that this was not the case.

  • We may have already gotten a glimpse of a revision of the Xbox Series X and a new controller in a leak from last year. Unlike the digital-only Series S, the new console did not support physical discs, but the controller did have a rechargeable and detachable battery pack.
