Square Enix's tactical RPG Triangle Strategy has been pulled from the Nintendo eShop for an unspecified reason, though the company has assured fans that the delisting is only temporary.

The details:

  • Fans noticed over the weekend that Triangle Strategy had been removed from the eShop with no explanation. In a post to X, developer Square Enix confirmed that it was intentional and that it will be available again in the future, but did not provide a reason behind its removal. “Triangle Strategy is temporarily unavailable to purchase on Nintendo Switch eShop. Those who have already bought the game will be able to download it,” the company wrote. “We are working on this and will update when the game is able to be purchased again.”

  • A similar situation occurred with another Square Enix title, Octopath Traveler, back in March. It took more than six weeks for it to return to the eShop, but during that time, Nintendo's publishing rights were transferred to Square, eventually resulting in a multi-platform release of the game and its sequel.

  • Triangle Strategy was published outside of Japan by Nintendo, sparking speculation that an Xbox and PlayStation release could be on the way in 2025. Based on the timeline of Octopath Traveler's delisting, fans can expect an announcement in the first quarter of next year.

  • Triangle Strategy has visuals similar to Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, which were both produced by Tomoya Asano. The tactical RPG received mostly favorable reviews from fans and critics for its story, replay value, and engaging combat system, with the game selling over 800,000 copies just two weeks after its Switch-exclusive release.
