Titanfall director's new game is reportedly set in the same universe, but it’s not Titanfall 3
According to reports, the upcoming game from Steve Fukuda's Respawn team is set in the Titanfall universe but is not the franchise's third installment.
The details:
Last year, Respawn boss Vince Zampella told Axios that a "very small team" led by Fukuda was working on a new IP. Zampella could not reveal much about the project at the time, but did say that the goal was to "find the fun in something new.”
On the Game Mess Mornings podcast, Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb discussed Respawn's current projects in development following the cancellation of its Star Wars FPS, which includes Fukuda's title. According to Grubb, the studio is "not making Titanfall 3," but rather creating something entirely new in the "Titanfall universe," though it is unclear what type of game it will be.
In recent years, the studio attempted to create a new Titanfall game titled "Titanfall Legends" which was said to be a single-player crossover between the series and Apex Legends, featuring characters from both franchises. The project was canceled in early 2023.
