The Sims movie is in the works at Margot Robbie's LuckyChap
It has been reported that a film based on Maxis' The Sims franchise is in the works at LuckyChap, the production company founded by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, which also produced 2023βs Barbie.
The details:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Herron, who directed Loki's first season, will lead the project, with Briony Redman serving as a co-writer. Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment will co-produce the film with LuckyChap, and EA is also involved.
The Sims games, like Barbie, have no set narrative, with players taking control of everyday people's lives. Sims can get jobs, start families, own homes, and purchase luxuries, so the narrative of the film remains unknown.
EA recently announced as a part of another restructuring that it would be focusing on its existing IPs rather than creating new ones, and itβs likely that the Sims movie is a part of those plans. With two of LuckyChap's recent works, Barbie and Saltburn, being huge hits critically and commercially, The Sims has a chance of being a solid film adaptation.
