Take-Two CEO is "deeply disappointed" by the wait for the next BioShock game

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said he is “deeply disappointed” that a new BioShock game still hasn’t released more than a decade after BioShock Infinite, admitting the project has burned “a lot of time and money” on creative dead ends but insisting development is now on the right path.

The details:

  • The next BioShock title has been in development at 2K studio Cloud Chamber since at least 2019, but has yet to be shown publicly and reportedly failed an internal review last year. As a result, the development team was subject to a major shakeup, with Irrational Games veteran Rod Fergusson taking over the role as studio head.
  • Speaking to Game File, Zelnick said he wouldn’t call the situation a “surprise” because he sees the problems unfolding in real time, but when asked if he was disappointed in how the project’s development has gone over the years, he replied: “Yes. Deeply disappointed.”
  • He explained that while he feels “a lot better” about the state of the project now, Take-Two ultimately “wasted a lot of time and money chasing down some creative alleys that turned out to be dead ends.” Zelnick added that Cloud Chamber now has a “good game,” but the goal is to release a “great one.”
