Stig Asmussen, the director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, is leaving Respawn Entertainment and EA.
The details:
- As reported by Bloomberg, Asmussen is leaving EA and its subsidiary Respawn, but it has not been revealed where he will go next or even if he intends to stay in the gaming industry. “After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck,” an EA spokesperson told Bloomberg. “Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”
- Respawn, best known for Apex Legends and the Titanfall series, released Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019 to critical and fan acclaim for its visuals, gameplay, and story. Asmussen has revealed that he intended for Star Wars Jedi to be a trilogy, which resulted in the somewhat buggy release of Jedi: Survivor earlier this year, and the studio has already begun hiring for the third title.
- It appears that Asmussen's departure will not have a significant impact on future titles at the studio, as EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently stated that EA's acquisition of Respawn was one of the "most incredible acquisitions ever done in the industry," and that the studio has some "very exciting" projects in the works. It’s known that a new IP, a Star Wars Jedi title, and Star Wars FPS and strategy games, are all currently in production.
More gaming news:
- Assassin's Creed Mirage, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Village are all coming to the iPhone 15 Pro in the coming months. During the recent Apple Keynote revealing the new line of smartphones, it was claimed that the power of the A17 chip inside the devices is capable of running "console versions" of the titles, marking the first time a console experience of Assassin's Creed is available on mobile.
- The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and PAX organizer ReedPop have announced that they will not collaborate on future E3 events and that E3 2024 will not take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Although the event has not been officially canceled, it appears that the ESA will skip another year and return in 2025 with a new format.
