Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has shared a brief update on the current status of Kingdom Hearts 4 and the third and final part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, confirming both are still in development and progressing as expected.

The details:

  • The update was shared during a recent livestream focused on FF7 Ever Crisis, and while nothing new was revealed, it has eased some concerns about the projects. “Regarding Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, [Motomu] Toriyama supposedly said we will have news around the time of the second anniversary of FF7 Ever Crisis. We are making great progress on the game,” Nomura said (translation via @aitaikimochi). “I can’t say anything else, but we are indeed making a lot of progress with the game. We already have decided when we will make the announcement as well, and we will stick to that time schedule. So don’t worry, but please wait for it.”
  • Nomura also stated that KH4 was “making great strides and going according to schedule,” following the release of a collage featuring several new images of the upcoming title earlier this year. He added that fans should stay tuned for future updates regarding the game, though the community has been given very little information since its reveal back in 2022.
  • FF7 Remake Part 3 has been in production since at least early 2024, with Square Enix opting to skip creating DLC content for Rebirth in order to dedicate resources to the final chapter. It will conclude the trilogy of titles, and given the publisher’s disappointment with the commercial performance of Rebirth, it will likely be released across multiple platforms rather than as a PlayStation exclusive like its predecessors.
