Almost two years after discontinuing development on the original game, 1047 Games has announced that Splitgate 2 will be released on last and current generation consoles, as well as PC, in 2025.

The details:

  • 1047 has released a new cinematic trailer for the game, confirming that it will be available on Xbox One and Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PS5, and PC next year. It will be a free-to-play, multiplayer-only title on all platforms, with a focus on competitive gameplay.

  • Splitgate 2 is built inside Unreal Engine 5 and will feature "completely new character models, maps, weapons, and even new portal walls and portals," as well as "some seriously sick character skins and weapons." It will also introduce a faction system, with each faction having unique abilities such as faster movement, time manipulation, and boosts to overall power, allowing teams to mix and match them for additional strategy.

  • Despite the fact that no release date has been set, Hologram Software has already created a mobile companion app for the game. The app includes free Splitgate 2 comics, quizzes, and collectibles that will earn players in-game rewards upon launch and provide more insight into the game's universe.

  • The original Splitgate was released in early access on PC in 2019, but gained popularity when it was released on consoles in 2021, during a period where quality FPS games felt few and far between. It entered an indefinite beta stage until September 2022, when 1047 announced that it would stop updating the game in favor of developing a sequel due to too many technical and resource constraints.
