Sony is “investigating” ransomware group’s recent hacking claims

After ransomware group Ransomed.vc claimed to have hacked "all" of Sony's internal systems, the company responded by stating that it is currently "investigating the situation."

The details:

• A new ransomware group recently claimed to have hacked "all Sony systems" and plans to sell the data it has obtained to anyone willing to pay an unspecified price. The group also shared proof of the hack, such as screenshots of an internal log-in page, a testbench PowerPoint presentation, and a file tree containing nearly 6,000 files.
• Sony responded to the hacking allegations in a statement to IGN, stating that it is "currently investigating the situation" and has "no further comment at this time." Given that the hackers also threatened to release the data to the public on September 28 if it didn't find a buyer, Sony is most likely working overtime to protect user data wherever possible.
• Sony has a history of security breaches, including the 2011 PlayStation Network hack, which resulted in the online gaming service going offline for a month, 77 million user accounts being accessed without authorization, 55 class action lawsuits, and a significant loss of trust in the conglomerate.
