Sega has announced that it will be raising employee salaries for its full-time staff in Japan starting April 1, 2026, marking the company's second major salary increase in three years.

The details:

  • As confirmed in a new press release (via Automaton), under the new compensation system, Sega’s existing full-time employees will see their base salaries rise by an average of 10%. This will be achieved by adding part of its existing annual bonuses into base pay and implementing a more flexible pay structure based on employee roles.
  • The publisher is also increasing the starting monthly salary for new graduates up from 300,000 JPY to 330,000 JPY (approximately $2,140 USD), representing a 10% raise for entry-level hires.
  • Sega says the decision to raise salaries is part of its goal of creating an "environment where employees can work with peace of mind amid rising living costs and social changes," as well as strengthening the company's ability to "recruit and develop talent in the face of increasing global competition."
  • This follows Sega's previous salary increase in July 2023, when the company raised entry-level salaries by 35%, from 222,000 to 300,000 JPY. It also joins other major Japanese game companies such as Konami, Capcom, and FromSoftware in raising wages to attract and retain skilled employees, while also paving the way for new talent to get a solid start in the industry.
