Sea of Stars surpasses four million players since launch
Sabotage Studios has revealed that four million people have played its latest indie RPG Sea of Stars since its August release.
The details:
Sabotage confirmed the milestone in a new press release, stating that over four million players have played the title across all platforms since August 28, 2023, including subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass, where it was available from day one. "Sea of Stars is the game of my dreams, and seeing its quest resonate so strongly with players and critics means the world to everyone at Sabotage," studio co-founder and Sea of Stars game director Thierry Boulanger wrote. "The team behind this game is the most talented and dedicated group I could have ever hoped to create Sea of Stars with, and I'm again reminded of their brilliance as we progress with creating Sea of Stars' upcoming DLC, Throes of the Watchmaker.β
The game has been a huge hit with indie fans, putting a modern spin on the classic 16-bit era turn-based RPG structure, complete with some great graphics and an engaging narrative. It has also won several awards, including Best Independent Game at The Game Awards, Best Indie Game at the Golden Joysticks, and recognition as one of the year's best releases at the BAFTAs.
Those jumping into Sea of Stars for the first time will notice that their game may differ slightly from what others have been playing since August, as the game's developer recently replaced the NPC known as "Jirard the Constructionist." Jirard "The Completionist" Khalil, a YouTuber, had a strong relationship with Sabotage over the years, but recent allegations of charity fraud resulted in Jirard being replaced with "Bob," who is also a builder.
