Rhythm game classic Samba de Amigo is finally getting a sequel

After 20 long years, Samba de Amigo is eventually getting a sequel instead of another port.

The details:

• Samba de Amigo: Party Central is the long-awaited sequel to Sega's rhythm game Samba de Amigo. The original title was released in arcades in 1999, and a Dreamcast port followed the next year. Only now, the game had received a full-fledged sequel, with the most recent release being a Wii port. To keep time with Samba, an orange monkey, players will use the Switch's JoyCons as maracas. While not as cool as the maraca controllers designed for the first game, it's still a great idea, and fans of the original game will feel right at home with this one.
• The game includes earnable cosmetics, 40 songs across multiple genres from different parts of the world, and multiple game modes, including multiplayer. One of the game modes shown is "Love Checker," which returns from the first game, in which two players need to play through a song to test their "compatibility" based on how accurate their movements were. Another addition is a new battle royale mode called "World Party," in which the lowest-scoring players are eliminated until only one player remains.
• Although we don’t have a definitive release date just yet, it was revealed to have a release window of Summer 2023, which seems like the perfect time for something as bright and playful as Samba de Amigo. You can watch the announcement here.

• February’s Nintendo Direct revealed a lot of new games, including the remaster of Metroid Prime which is available now. The remaster has been rumored for a while, with its 20th anniversary in November 2022.
• At Nintendo Direct, Pikmin 4 received a gameplay trailer as well as a release date: July 21, 2023. Fans of the franchise are already hyped, with the game featuring the classic look of the franchise with new gameplay additions.
• The Nintendo Switch is now the third-best-selling console of all time with 122.5M unit sales worldwide, placing it just behind the Nintendo DS after six years on the market.
