Princess Zelda stars as the protagonist of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Nintendo has revealed a new 2D Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, with the titular character starring as its protagonist instead of Link.
The details:
Echoes of Wisdom, which was announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct, will be a 2D game with a similar art style to 2019's Link's Awakening remake, with Princess Zelda as the main player character. The game will be released on September 26 for the Switch, along with a new Triforce-themed Switch Lite design that launches on the same day.
Instead of a sword like Link, Zelda will use the "Tri Rod," which was given to her by a mysterious fairy named Tri. The new item can clone objects and enemies found throughout Hyrule, allowing Zelda to solve puzzles or summon monsters to fight for her. In the trailer, Zelda duplicates a table to get to a new area, crates to block powerful air blasts, and blocks of water to swim directly up a cliff.
The game's plot centers around the "people of Hyrule being stolen away by strange rifts that have appeared," with Link among those who have gone missing. This puts Zelda in the shoes of the hero this time, and it marks the first time the princess will be playable in the franchise since Hyrule Warriors and will be her debut standalone game.
Other games announced at Nintendo Direct:
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is arriving on November 7, 2024, and will be the first game in the action RPG franchise since 2015's Paper Jam.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released in 2025 for the Switch, over seven years since its initial announcement in 2017.
