Nintendo has revealed that in the latest Pikmin game, players will be able to design their own captain as they search for Captain Olimar.
The details:
- Pikmin 4 will feature a character creator for the first time in the series, allowing players to choose from a variety of hairstyles, body types, faces, skin tones, and more, according to a new trailer. It doesn't appear to be too in-depth, as it's more akin to a primitive Mii creator, but it will undoubtedly make the game's new protagonist feel more "you.β
- The trailer also confirms that the game's plot revolves around the search for Captain Olimar, the main character from the original trilogy, as you play a member of the Rescue Corps. It appears that you will meet several characters who were part of the original Rescue Corps team sent to find Olimar before you find (or don't find) the Captain. It will follow the events of Pikmin 3 Deluxe, which led to Olimar being in this situation in the first place.
- Pikmin 4 was confirmed in a 2015 interview with Eurogamer when Shigeru Miyamoto stated that the game was "very close to completion." Since then, fans have had to wait nearly eight years for the game to be released after it was stated that development was a "lower priority," before it was formally announced in September 2022. The game will be released on the Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023.
More upcoming games:
- CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 will begin development in early 2024, with the newly formed studio CD Projekt Red North America in charge. The team includes members of the company's Vancouver studio as well as key Cyberpunk 2077 developers from the company's headquarters in Poland.
- According to a few job listings, ZeniMax Online Studios' upcoming MMO IP could be an open-world action RPG that will be released across all major platforms. The game may be built with Unreal Engine 5.
