Japanese developer TECOPARK has announced that the 10-person version of hit indie platformer PICO PARK is now permanently free after it was discovered that the pricing can no longer be changed on Steam.

The details:

  • As announced on X, the original “Classic Edition” of PICO PARK is now free for all on Steam. According to the developer, the decision was not intentional, with the plan being to make it a paid release again after its first update in nine years. However, TECOPARK discovered that Steam only allows developers to change the price a select number of times, forcing it to remain a free release.
  • Originally released in 2016, PICO PARK: Classic Edition is a platformer that requires up to 10 people to work together to complete levels by solving puzzles. Unsurprisingly, gameplay often turns chaotic as players are forced to stand on each other to reach certain areas or time pressing buttons or jumps to progress. It was later overhauled in 2021 to reduce the player count to a smoother eight-person experience, with a sequel being released in 2024.
  • The game’s latest update introduced online multiplayer, support for Steam Input and high refresh rate monitors, and a visual overhaul to make the title resemble the series’ current art style.
