Perfect Dark's reboot is in a "very rough state," according to reports
It has been claimed that the development of Xbox's Perfect Dark reboot has run into issues and is currently in "a very rough state" under Crystal Dynamics and The Initiative.
The details:
Speaking on the Giant Bombcast, reporter Jeff Grubb provided an update on the game's development from his sources. "The fallout from this is, I've been hearing more and more, that Perfect Dark is in a rough state, sounds like it's in a very rough state," Grubb said. "It doesn't sound like it's really come together in any way."
Video game historian Liam Robertson, who previously shared information on a similar situation with the canceled Xbox RPG Scalebound, echoed the claim, calling it a "big, protracted mess." VG247βs Alex Donaldson also stated that the game's development team is "really trying hard to push a boulder up a steep hill."
Originally announced in 2020, IGN reported in 2023 that Perfect Dark was still "in the earliest stages" after facing "roadblock after roadblock." Due to challenges during development, employees from multiple studios left the team, and the project is said to have been restarted from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 in 2022.
