Path of Exile 2 developer warns players of potential queues as it prepares for over one million players
Path of Exile 2 director Jonathan Rogers has warned players that they will most likely encounter queues when attempting to play the game during its launch weekend, as over one million players are eligible for early access.
The details:
In a message to fans ahead of Path of Exile 2's early access launch today, Rogers stated that interest in the action RPG has gone "far beyond" the studio's expectations. As a result, the studio has warned that its servers may be unable to handle the influx of players and that queues to play are likely. "We've just reached 1 million Early Access redemptions," the developer shared on X. "The support you have all shown for Path of Exile 2 Early Access is far beyond anything we could have ever predicted."
However, Rogers has stated that Grinding Gear Games has since "ordered way more cloud capacity," with the new servers set to go live "soon." Despite this, the studio remains concerned about its backend service's ability to handle upwards of a million users. “We’ve added more database shards, scaling everything we have up as far as it will go. But we’re really not sure what kind of limits we might hit. We never expected things to go this big during [early access],” Rogers said.
Path of Exile 2 is available in early access on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, and, like its predecessor, will be free to play upon its full release. There is currently no set release date for its full launch, but fans who want to participate in the game's early access period can do so by purchasing one of its "Supporter Packs," the cheapest of which costs $30.
