Atlus has announced that the first installment in its new RPG IP, Metaphor: ReFantazio, sold over one million copies on launch day in both physical and digital formats.

The details:

  • In a new press release, the company confirmed the impressive milestone, stating that the game has "achieved its global cumulative sales of one million units," which includes "the total number of physical unit shipments and downloadable unit sales."

  • This makes Metaphor the fastest-selling release in Atlus history, surpassing the previous record set by Persona 3 Reload, which sold one million units in its first week earlier this year. Prior to Reload's release, Persona 5 was said to have sold 1.5 million units in the first month of its global launch, after selling 500,000 copies in Japan in a similar period of time.

  • Metaphor has been a massive hit, having been released to critical acclaim across PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, with a growing concurrent player count of over 50,000 on Steam. While there have been many comparisons to Persona due to similar art styles and gameplay mechanics, the game has managed to carve out its own identity and has been praised for incorporating the best elements of Japanese RPGs.
