Former Disco Elysium developers found two new studios, and one is working on a spiritual successor
Two separate groups of former ZA/UM employees announced the formation of new studios this week, Dark Math Games and Longdue Games, both of which are working on new RPG projects.
The details:
Approximately 12 former Disco Elysium developers have founded Longdue Games, a new studio based in the UK, announcing that it is working on a spiritual successor to the hit RPG title. The studio describes the game as a "psychogeographic RPG" that "explores the delicate interplay between the conscious and subconscious, the seen and unseen," with the player's decisions having a lasting impact on the world.
Another studio, Dark Math Games, announced its formation on Friday, revealing that it is developing a detective RPG titled XXX Nightshift. The studio, consisting of 20 former ZA/UM developers, states that XXX Nightshift will be "a deep single-player role-playing experience with many tools and layers of gameplay" with a "unique companion dynamic" that allows for additional ways to solve its detective cases.
The formation of the two studios follows ZA/UM's layoffs earlier this year, which affected a quarter of its workforce and stemmed from the cancellation of Disco Elysium DLC. ZA/UM is also involved in a lawsuit with former RPG developers over allegations of toxic behavior, fraud, and misconduct at the company before their dismissal in 2022.
