Former Deviation Games developers reportedly form new studio under Sony
Sony has reportedly formed a new studio with developers from the now-defunct Deviation Games, with studio founder Jason Blundell possibly involved.
The details:
According to former Deviation developer Michael Anthony on Linkedin (via ResetEra), Sony's new studio is currently working on a new IP, with "a lot" of employees from the former developer joining its team. "Hey, I hear that a lot of previous Deviation Games employees have set up their own studio at Sony working on an undisclosed new IP," Anthony wrote. "All the people I see working there that have signed up are top-class developers and hope that you can create a top-class new IP with your studio that hopefully gives you all the time you need to create a quality product and not have to deal with red tape from previous projects."
Blundell involvement in the studio is currently unconfirmed; however, ResetEra users believe a tweet from former Deviation community manager JC Farmer may be related to the developer. In the post from December 2023, Farmer stated that he had joined an unspecified PlayStation studio as a Junior Game Designer and would be working under Blundell.
Blundell and Dave Anthony, who had previously worked on the Call of Duty franchise at Treyarch, founded Deviation Games in 2022. The studio announced that it would be creating a new IP for PlayStation, with Sony providing financial support and rumors claiming that the project's budget was over $50 million. Blundell left the studio in October 2022, and less than a year later, it went through a round of layoffs before closing completely in March 2024.
