Final Fantasy VII Remake director clarifies he is not cutting content in Part 3
Square Enix

Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi has clarified recent comments about Part 3 being "more concise" than Rebirth, explaining that he is not planning to cut content from the final entry in the trilogy.

The details:

  • In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Hamaguchi responded to criticism that some story sections in Rebirth felt stretched out by saying Part 3 would be "more concise.” Unsurprisingly, fans believed that Square Enix would attempt to shorten the later acts of the original FF7 in Part 3 of the reboot by cutting out “unnecessary” parts of the game.
  • Speaking to VGC, the director clarified that his comments were about improving the game’s pace, but not by cutting back on content. Hamaguchi explained that he was satisfied with Rebirth's pacing personally and didn't feel it was unnecessarily long, but he acknowledged some players felt differently, prompting the studio to find ways to improve it. “It’s about making sure the pacing feels right, it’s not about cutting out content, it’s making sure that it feels right, the speed that the story progresses at feels right, and it is fairly quick and feels like you can get through it at a reasonable pace,” the director said. “But it has to feel right, so that’s what I mainly intended to say there.”
  • The third part of the FF7 Remake trilogy has been in the works since the release of Rebirth in March 2024, with the game expected to be developed much faster than its predecessors. With the weaker-than-expected commercial performance of Remake and Rebirth, it’s also expected that the title will be a multiplatform release, rather than a timed PlayStation exclusive.
