Final Fantasy IX 25th anniversary website sparks rumors that its reported remake could be announced soon

Square Enix has launched a new website to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX, reigniting speculation that a remake of the legendary JRPG will be announced soon.
The details:
According to the site, Square will be releasing a new line of figurines, plushies, a book, vinyl records, and other collectibles for the gameβs 25th anniversary on July 7. The developer has also planned several projects with the IP, including a collaboration with Japanese glasses brand Zoff and an "anniversary lottery."
It was previously reported that an FF9 remake was in the works as early as 2021, with updates over the years from reliable sources such as leakers, journalists, and even official databases confirming that the project was still in progress. Despite Square not acknowledging the project's rumored existence, fans believe the game will be announced soon as part of the celebrations.
Fans have speculated that, given Square's history of appearances at Nintendo events, the game could be revealed during the upcoming Switch 2 Direct on April 2 to highlight the console's new hardware. However, it's worth noting that the remake is said to be more in line with the original version of the game rather than an entirely new experience similar to the FF7 Remake trilogy.
