Fan-made racer Bloodborne Kart will release after removing the Bloodborne IP

Bloodborne Kart, a fan-made kart racer that was immediately popular with fans, will be renamed Nightmare Kart in May after Sony forced its developers to remove all references to the IP.

The details:

  • Indie developer Lilith Walther announced that the now "legally distinct" racing title will be available for free on May 31 across Steam and Itch.io. It will include 20 racers, 16 maps, a campaign, a battle mode, and zero references to Bloodborne.

  • After her PS1 demake of FromSoftware's Soulslike went viral, fans asked Walther to revisit the idea for Bloodborne Kart, which she had first created as an April Fool's joke in 2017. Development began in 2021, with the game set to release in January, before Sony informed the developer that she would have to completely remove the Bloodborne branding and references.

  • Despite the changes, Nightmare Kart retains its original PS1 graphics and gothic art style. It will also have a soundtrack composed by Evelyn Lark, with a snippet of the new title theme shared with the release announcement.
