Saudi-owned esports tournament organizer ESL FACEIT Group has announced a round of layoffs that will see approximately 15% of its global workforce affected.

The details:

  • EFG confirmed the job cuts in a recent press release, stating that the decision allows it to "evolve in a fast-paced market and support the reorganization of EFG toward its primary business goals." The total number of affected employees is estimated to be upwards of 300 across the company, including Esports Engine and Vindex.

  • The company is now in the process of contacting those caught in the cuts as its workforce is spread across the globe, but everyone affected will be able to keep their work-provided laptops and phones, in addition to appropriate compensation for their location.

  • EFG states that it does not believe the layoffs will have any effects on its current partnerships, which include EA, as well as Blizzard, with ESL still set to run the debut season of the Overwatch Champions Series.
