Ubisoft has unveiled the Siege X update for Rainbow Six Siege, showing off its updated visuals and audio, a new 6v6 mode, and partial free-to-play access.

The details:

  • Ubisoft has finally revealed Siege X, an overhaul for its decade-old shooter, with a release date of June 10. With the update, the Siege will become free-to-play, allowing new players to earn up to 26 operators and gain access to Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front mode. However, a premium version of the game will still be required to participate in Ranked and Siege Cup, as well as to use its entire roster.

  • Siege X will give the game a complete visual overhaul, including a new lighting system as well as new models and textures for its existing maps, starting with Border, Bank, Clubhouse, Chalet, and Kafe, with three more revamped maps released with each season. The maps will also receive new destructible elements, such as explosive pipes and fire extinguishers, which can be used to physically damage, disorient, and hinder opponents' vision.

  • The audio in the game will also be reworked to provide more accurate information to players, such as which direction they are moving, which floor they are on, and what actions they are performing.

  • Ubisoft will also implement a new anticheat, R6 ShieldGuard, in an effort to combat Siege's ongoing cheating problem. The new system will include "live security updates that will occur without the need for scheduled maintenance," making it more difficult for cheat creators to bypass existing security measures.

  • A closed Siege X beta is now available, allowing fans to test its new 6v6 Dual Front mode, in which attackers and defenders work together to complete objectives on a larger map dubbed "District," with respawns enabled.
