Sony adds limited-time retro themes inspired by past PlayStation consoles to PS5
As part of PlayStation's 30th anniversary celebrations, Sony has added the ability for players to change the overall theme of their PS5 consoles to those inspired by the PS1, 2, 3, and 4.
The details:
PS5 players will now be greeted with the iconic Sony Computer Entertainment boot screen from the PS1, complete with its equally as legendary sound. Once on the home screen, players can access the settings menu to choose between the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5, or 30th Anniversary themes, each with their own set of visuals and sound effects.
The themes, while not as creative as those found on the PS3 and PS4, add a nostalgic touch to the rather dull standard PS5 home screen. The PS1 theme places the lower half of the original system at the top of the screen, whereas the PS2 theme includes the mysterious orbs, glass-like objects, and "towers" that could be seen when a game launched. The PS3 and PS4 themes simply add the "waves" that appear on their respective console home screens, while the 30th anniversary theme includes a unique PlayStation banner.
Each theme also includes unique color schemes for the PS5's menus and Welcome tile, such as grey for the PS1 and purple for the PS2, as well as sounds from the respective systems.
When players shut down their PS5, they will see a message from PlayStation reading "Thank you for being a part of this journey." Sony has also released a two-minute thank you video featuring many of its iconic franchises from the past three decades, with the anniversary itself falling on December 3.
