Yoshihisa Kishimoto, the creator behind the legendary beat ‘em up series Double Dragon, has died at age 64.

The details:

  • As announced by Kishimoto’s son, Ryūbō, on X (via Famitsu), the game designer reportedly passed away on April 2, though no further details were shared.
  • Kishimoto began his career with Data East in the early 1980s, working on games like Cobra Command and Road Blaster. However, he would later cement his legacy in the industry by joining Tecmo and developing Renegade and Double Dragon, both of which spawned long-running franchises.
  • The designer would later go on to do freelance work, assisting in the development of games such as Double Dragon 4 and River City Ransom: Underground in 2017, and receiving special thanks on later releases, River City Girls and Double Dragon Neon.
