Eidos Montréal, the Embracer-owned studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution, has confirmed layoffs, claiming that it lacks the "capacity to entirely reallocate them" to other projects.

The details:

  • In a statement posted to social media, the developer confirmed that the job cuts will directly affect up to 75 employees. It stated that as "one of its mandates is coming to an end," it no longer has the "capacity" to relocate staff to other teams, forcing the studio to let go of staff. "Today, we informed our studio staff that we are going to let go up to 75 valuable members, as one of our mandates is coming to an end,” the studio wrote. “It is not a reflection of their dedication or skills, but unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to entirely reallocate them to our other ongoing projects and services.”

  • The studio concluded its statement by stating that it will continue to assist affected employees in finding work elsewhere, though it is unclear if it is providing any form of severance packages.

  • This is the second round of layoffs at Eidos since the start of 2024. In January of last year, parent company Embracer Group confirmed that a project had been cancelled at the studio, resulting in 97 job cuts. Since then, the developer has announced that it is assisting with Playground Games' reboot of Fable, which is set to release in 2026.

  • Crystal Dynamics, which was acquired by Embracer along with Eidos from Square Enix in 2022, announced layoffs last week. The Tomb Raider studio stated that the decision was made to "better align [its] current business needs," which resulted in 17 employees being let go.
