The Game Awards
A joke made by God of War actor Christopher Judge at The Game Awards at the expense of Modern Warfare III appears to have irritated some of the game's developers, who have expressed their displeasure with the remark.
The details:
- Judge appeared on stage at the show to present an award, where he then compared the length of his 11-minute speech from last year, when he won the award for best performance, to the length of MW3's single-player campaign, jokingly stating that his speech was "actually longer."
- Although most viewers saw the joke as a lighthearted jab at the game, developers at Sledgehammer Games didn't see it that way, posting on social media (via IGN) that the joke was "quite tough to hear" due to rumored development issues. "Funny," ex-Infinity Ward employee Ajinkya Limaye said in a deleted tweet. "But yeah, the metrics that Call of Duty absolutely destroys all of the God of War games (probably combined to be honest) is also equally laughable (if not more).”
- MW3 was reportedly developed in just 16 months after Activision decided to turn the game from an expansion for MW2 into a full game with no changes to its development timeline. This caused significant crunching and burnout among Sledgehammer employees and a wave of backlash from fans over it being "the same game." “Honestly, as COD developers, we've heard way worse.” Sardall said. “But we don't expect it from a peer at an event that is supposed to be celebrating this year's achievements in gaming. Especially with all the information that was leaked about its development.”
More gaming news:
- The Day Before's launch was a disaster, plagued by technical issues, a lack of content, and claims of misleading advertising, leading to it becoming one of the lowest-rated Steam games with a significant drop in player count.
- Monster Hunter Wilds will be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. So far, not much has been revealed, with series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirming that more details will be shared next summer.
