Amazon Games has officially confirmed that its MMO, New World: Aeternum, will be taken offline permanently on January 31, 2027. The game has already been pulled from storefronts, and the company has outlined a timeline for the shutdown following layoffs at its developer last year.

The details:

  • Back in October, Amazon Games announced that it was moving away from MMO development and would be ending service on New World. This decision came amid major job cuts at several Amazon game studios during the same month, which also ended the development of the company’s Lord of the Rings MMORPG.
  • As of January 15, 2026, the game has been delisted from storefronts and is no longer available for purchase on Steam and the Xbox store, and from July 20, 2026, players will also be unable to purchase in-game currency. Players who have previously purchased New World: Aeternum will still be able to download and install the game until January 31, 2027.
  • In a statement, Amazon Games thanked the community for their dedication to the game since its launch in 2021. β€œWe want to thank the players for your dedication and passion,” it wrote. β€œWe are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we're honored that we were able to share so much with the community."
