A Final Fantasy 6 remake would take two decades to develop, says original director
Yoshinori Kitase, the director of Final Fantasy VI and producer of the VII Remake, has stated that a full modern remake of 6 would take twice as long to create as 7's.
The details:
Speaking with French YouTuber Julien Chièze (translated by @Genki_JPN), Kitase expanded on his previous comments about fan and internal demand for an FF6 remake, stating that it could take around 20 years to complete.
Kitase stated that the reason FF6 would take twice as long is due to the number of characters and content in the game. Previously, franchise creator Hironobu Sakaguchi discussed the possibility of a remake, stating that the 2D art style would most likely result in story changes when adapted into 3D.
FF7's remake has already been in development for a decade, and has yet to be completed, with its second part, Rebirth, arriving next month. The third and final entry in the remake series is currently in development, although it's unknown when it will arrive.
FF6 is regarded as one of the franchise's best entries due to its story, setting, and impressive SNES graphics. Despite the demand for a remake, Square Enix appears to be focusing on other titles, with rumors of an FF9 remake with a smaller scope of 7. According to insiders, the FF9 remake will retain the original gameplay while providing a significant visual upgrade.
