XDefiant is "absolutely not dying," says Ubisoft as it reveals new content plans
Ubisoft San Francisco has responded to claims that XDefiant's support may end due to low player numbers, stating that the game is "absolutely not dying."
The details:
Earlier this month, it was reported that Ubisoft's shares had dropped significantly, mainly due to the lukewarm reception of Star Wars Outlaws and, most notably, low interest in XDefiant. The first-person shooter, which was released in May after multiple delays, generated an initial wave of excitement after many dubbed it a "Call of Duty killer," but it failed to retain the majority of this audience for a variety of reasons.
In a blog post announcing the game's new roadmap for seasons 2-4, the developer directly addressed claims that Ubisoft may drop support due to low player counts. “No, the game is absolutely not dying,” the post reads. “We know there are things we need to improve like Netcode/Hitreg and adding more content to progression, but the game is doing well. We just want it to do better. And we do that by addressing the concerns of our community which has always been the plan. Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team in order for us to do that.”
Ubisoft intends to add new modes, private lobbies, new weapons and factions, as well as other content related to player progression in the coming seasons. Regarding its technical issues, which producer Mark Rubin directly acknowledged in July, netcode, anti-cheat, and matchmaking will all improve with each season. Several quality-of-life enhancements requested by players will also be implemented, and additional support for its ranked mode is in the works.
