It has been reported that Xbox is planning to make “major” layoffs next week as the company plans to restructure its European operations.

The details:

  • As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, “major job cuts” will begin at Xbox next week. Although exact numbers have not been revealed as of yet, sources have stated that there will be "substantial cuts across the entire group," with Schreier adding that the layoffs are “expected to be big.”
  • Not only are job cuts on the way, but The Verge has now reported that Microsoft is planning to restructure “Xbox distribution across central Europe,” which will also result in operations being ceased in some regions. Jobs are also expected to be lost within Microsoft’s sales organization.
  • This is the fifth wave of layoffs to hit Microsoft in the past 18 months, with the company making huge cuts in January 2023, January 2024, September 2024, and most recently, in January and May of this year. Overall, over 11,000 jobs have been lost at Microsoft, with the company citing the need to focus on “long-term success.”
