Halo art director Glenn Israel has left Halo Studios after working on the FPS series for over 17 years, with his farewell message suggesting that there is more to his departure than the public may expect.

The details:

  • In a post to LinkedIn, Israel confirmed that he has left Halo Studios, hinting that there may be discontent within the developer. "As of today and after seventeen long years, I am officially no longer contributing to the Halo universe," he wrote. "There is little more I can say for the moment, though I intend to share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year."
  • The art director went on to share words of advice for others in the industry, again adding to further speculation about internal issues that may have negatively impacted the personal lives of its employees. "No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values - and no one can force you to,” Israel said. “Stay strong, take evidence when necessary, and find where you belong."
  • Following the LinkedIn post, Halo YouTuber Mr. Rebs reported that there could certainly be some issues within the studio, highlighting that just one of the nine members of Halo Infinite’s art team remains at the developer just a few years after the game’s release. He also noted that chief of staff Melissa Boone has also departed Halo Studios recently.
  • Halo Studios is set to share more details about its multiple Unreal Engine 5 Halo projects later this month. It’s rumored that among these unannounced titles is a remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved, using the original 2001 game’s engine for gameplay with Unreal Engine 5 providing its visuals, similarly to Oblivion Remastered.
