Ubisoft has proposed the elimination of up to 200 roles at its Paris headquarters, following last week’s announcement of a “major company reset” that also included multiple game cancellations, studio closures, and wider restructuring across the publisher’s global operations.

The details:

  • In an email to employees, the company announced that it has begun talks over a Rupture Conventionnelle Collective (RCC), a collective, voluntary mutual termination agreement under French law that could see up to 200 Ubisoft International employees in Paris leave the company through negotiations with work unions. Should the expected target be met, the cuts would represent around 18% of the office’s workforce.
  • However, the RCC is not guaranteed to go ahead, as it requires mutual agreement between the publisher and trade unions and approval from authorities. The cuts will also only impact Ubisoft International employees under French contracts and have “no impact on other French entities or Ubisoft teams worldwide.”
  • The plan is a part of a major restructuring at Ubisoft, which has seen the company create five “Creative Houses” to refocus its efforts on different types of games. As a result, six titles, including the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, have been cancelled, with further delays to seven other projects. The publisher also confirmed that it has shuttered its studios in Stockholm and Halifax.
