Ubisoft has no plans of shutting down XDefiant after season four, producer says
XDefiant executive producer Mark Rubin has once again denied that Ubisoft intends to abandon the game once its current content roadmap is complete.
The details:
Last month, Ubisoft revealed the first-person shooter's next three seasons of content, which include new maps, characters, weapons, and modes. However, Rubin stated clearly in the announcement post that the game was "absolutely not dying," raising further concerns about the title's future after low interest contributed to a drop in Ubisoft's share price.
Earlier this week, an X user known as "Shaun Weber," who describes themselves as a "game developer who knows some people," claimed that the game would not receive support beyond season four if its player count continued to decline. โUbisoft research team is actively asking their tester to have another In-House test session and give/repeat their feedback,โ Weber claimed. โMultiple sources told that it's possible that the game will end its Support after season 4 if they can't get enough players.โ
Rubin responded to the claims on X, stating that there are no plans to end support for XDefiant and that he has "literally been in meetings as of last week to discuss our Year 2 plans." He added that the team is currently focused on "improving the technical experience" and developing content for its future seasons.
Rubin also acknowledged the game's declining player numbers, stating that while Ubisoft has done "very little marketing," this has allowed the team to focus on improving the title before attempting to reach a wider audience with a larger marketing budget.
