Steam releases its game recording feature to the public, fully compatible with Steam Deck
Valve has announced that the highly requested game recording feature is now available to all Steam users. It has also been confirmed that the feature works on the Steam Deck.
The details:
After months of beta testing, all Steam users can now record, replay, clip, and share gameplay from any game on the platform. All models of Valve's handheld Steam Deck will be able to access the full set of tools.
According to its dedicated steam page, the feature utilizes "Background Recording" to record and save footage on a specified drive, overwriting itself at the specified resolution and length to prevent players from missing any moments they wish to save. Manual on-demand recording is also available, with the feature included in the Steam Overlay.
Players will also have the ability to view and add "markers" to the recording timeline at any time. These markers can be generated by the game to mark any important events or moments that players may want to revisit, created whenever Steam achievements are displayed, or manually set by the user. In some games, the timeline may change appearance to indicate whether a player is in a menu, lobby, or gameplay.
Clips can be shared by downloading the MP4 file, using a temporary direct link, copying the video and pasting it elsewhere, or sending it to another device. Users can send the clip to their PC or mobile device via the Steam app or a QR code.
