Shiba Inu to become the first dog speedrunner at AGDQ 2024
Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2024, one of the world's largest speedrunning events, will feature a speedrun of the NES title Gyromite from a Shibu Inu named Peanut Butter (PB).
The details:
Streamer JSR_ has announced that his four-legged friend will appear as a speedrunner at AGDQ in January 2024. Of course, the dog will be assisted by his owner; however, his previous successful attempt to speedrun Gyromite has been officially verified under the "Game B - Dog Assistance" category on the community's largest site, Speedrun.com.
JSR_ has built a custom controller for PB, who has been trained to press the buttons when directed by the owner, making the dog responsible for all inputs. The streamer also stated that no autofire, macro, save states, or other features were used to help the dog in his previous 25m 29s run.
The game being played is the 1985 NES platformer Gyromite, which is famous for its use of Nintendo's short-lived R.O.B. the Robot accessory, which would move its arms and interact with objects around it to move obstacles out of the way of the player in-game. The accessory was unpopular, with only Gyromite and Stack-Up supporting the robot; however, he has since lived on as a Smash Bros. character.
JSR_ will also be participating in the event alongside a long list of other speedrunners, attempting an any% run (beating the game) of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse for the Famicom.
